Severely Clogged Toilet?

My toilet has been clogged for about a month now (I do have another one), but I've tried Drano (about 3 gallons of it now), a snake, and of course, a plunger.. what else can I do? I really don't want to have to call a plumber if I don't have to.

sounds to me like you have to. but here is some free advice. NEVER put tampons, sanitary napkins, baby wipes, chlorox clean ups or anything else like them in the toilet. If I had a nickel for every ball of these things I've pulled from clogged drains I could retire in Tahiti, TOMORROW. Only 4 things go in a toilet, breakfast, lunch, dinner and toilet paper. Follow these rules and your clogs should be a thing of the past if your system has been installed correctly.





Draino in a toilet is a bad thing, a very bad thing. With the ammount you have used I wouldn't be surprised if your wax ring has been eaten away considerably. From what you have described and done to that toilet, you have a very bad blockage. The toilet needs to be pulled up, the wax ring replaced and the line probably needs snaked. If that is all it needs, you're looking at about a $200 - $400 bill. Make sure you tell the serviceman you have used Draino in the line, he'll appreciate the heads up.............
Reply:It's very simple to remove the toilet, turn off the water, undo the bolts holding it to the floor, empty the remaining water into the bathtub, and then look or use a tool to see if any thing is caught in the toilet trap that's the part that looks like an S, it's built into the toilet, if theres no blockage, then the problem is probably in the sewer main line.

Anyhow, since plunging isn't working nor a snake, you need to borrow someone's pressure washer. Outside your house, there's a pipe with a flap on it. Direct the water into that pipe %26amp; it should loosen the clog. That's where a plumber will use a pressure washer %26amp; using someone else's will save you tons of money. If this doesn't work, spend the money %26amp; call a professional. Something else might be stuck down the pipes %26amp; they can use a pipe camera to see.

Reply:When everything fails, the toilet may have to be removed from the floor and turned upside down so you can get a blockage. This is not what anyone would call an easy job, so you should give the simpler methods as good a try as you can before you remove the toilet. But removing the toilet is not beyond the capabilities of the average do-it-yourself!

Reply:Drano won't work on a toilet. Drano will dissolve grease and hair, but not.....turds or toilet paper, for lack of a better word. They're made of cellulose, not fats and proteins.





A snake and/or a plumber (or at least a handyman that knows what he's doing). Sorry. No other way. It'll be messy. Good luck.
Reply:Try this simple test! Fill a 5 gallon bucket with water, and pour the water into the toilet. If it won't take the whole 5 gallons, your sewer main is stopped up, and will need to be cleaned out! Please, NEVER use chemicals in any drain line! They are a waste of money, as you have obviously found out! Good luck!
