Can hard cat food clog my cat intestines? and am i feeding her to little?
You are feeding your cat exactly what it should be eating!!!! Good for you!!!!

A wet food diet is species appropriate. Dy food is not good for cats.

It's better for the cat.

Cats were never meant to eat dry food, also known as cereals or kibble. We, humans, make them eat it for convenience to us. It has nothing to do with them or their nutritional needs. It's completely species inappropriate.

In the wild, cats derive their entire liquid intake from their prey. They do not have a thirst mechanism because they don't need it. They get all they need from what they eat. So they do not drink water. Regular ol' house cats have descended from those same wild cats.

So in a home environment, your kitty does not get the moisture it need from dry food and are almost always in a constant state of dehydration. Water fountains are encouraged to TRY to get your cat to drink more and your kitty may even enjoy it. But it will never meet its water intake needs from drinking form a bowl.

Diabetes, Obesity, Stones and Urinary Tract Infections, with and without deadly crystals, run rampant these days. Cats are not taking in enough water to stave them off. Water prevents UTI’s with crystals 90% of the time. Distilled water is recommended as well.

Overall, wet is a better all around better for any cats diet, be it canned or Raw and they should never be fed dry cereal kibble if we wish to most closely match their wild nutritional and dietary needs.

Kibble meets our needs… not our cats.

PS... Dry does NOT clean teeth. It's an old myth that has been disproved for years but vets drilled it into people's heads for so long that people still believe it. Want your cat to have clean teeth? Give them an appropriately sized raw bone. :o)

If you are concerned that she is to thin, you can up he daily intake with a little more wet food.

Here is a good site for you to assess your cats body condition and decide if you should feed her more...

Reply:First, dry food is dehydrating, so that likely explains the dry turds.

Second, 5oz a day of canned food is not nearly the same amount of calories as a few bowels of dry food! So please feed her more!

Third, has she had a vet visit at all? I'd suggest a checkup and blood work to make sure nothing else is going on.
Reply:If your cat is eating mostly dry food, you need to make sure it gets enough water. So it's worth investing into a drinking fountain. I have 3 cats, free-feed them dry food (Innova EVO), and give them little bit of canned (Innova EVO or Natural Balance) morning and evening - about 1/3 of 5.5oz can each time though they rarely eat it all since they are never really hungry. And I do have a drinking fountain (catit) - they love it.
Reply:cats should have access to their dry food ALL THE TIME..

they will eat more or less depending on the quality of the food

(you can determine quality easily by looking at this link)

she should have 1 teaspoon of canned food at least once a day..if you mix water with the canned to make soup it will help keep her urinary tract good....

semi moist food (Tender Vittles) is pure crap!

better food = less poop...

when was her last vet check and is she spayed?? and vaccianted??
Reply:Dry food is fine to feed your cat. If it worries you that much just feed her canned. You are feeding her to little though. Feed her two cans a day and she'll be fine.
