Double sink - clogged drain on disposal side?

I have a double kitchen sink - one side "normal", the other side has a disposal. If I run water down the regular side it drains fine, if I turn the water on the disposal side it starts backing up. If I turn the disposal on it will drain and then start backing up until I turn it off and back on. Disposal is working - if I put something down I can hear it chop it up, and it does drain. I removed both traps under the sink and they were both clear and both go into a triple Y - so I figure it cant be clogged further down the line or neither sink would drain. So Why doesnt the disposal drain water? Is that normal? (Just moved into the house- not used to the disposal - or know what it did before),

Double sink - clogged drain on disposal side?
sounds like something might be restricted in the disposal itself
Reply:your really not suppose to run water down the disposial. it backs up because the mechanism that chopps the particals doesnt let it pass as easy. theres nothing wrong, as long as its not clogged
Reply:You should always run water while running the disposal, since this helps lubricate the blades and flushes the chopped particles down the drain. It's possible that some of the blades are misaligned or something, and that's why they're interfering while it's running. I would suggest don't use the disposal until you've had a professional look at it - if you're renting, call your landlord; if you own, call a plumber.
Reply:Hi,

I don't know if this is your problem but I had one simular and it was acting just like you described and it was caused by rice. for some reason rice will collect in the drain and wont go all the way down. We had to call a plumber and he took it a part and got the rice out. He told us that it will do this because when it get wet it expands and causes the blockage. After he told us that we made a point of putting our left over rice in the trash can. We didn't have a problem after that so we figured he knew what he was talking about.
Reply:You have a partial plug thats further down, Vacuum pressure is possible. Check roof vent. ( you will find it right above or near, snake it out). If not that , Snake drain at the lowest place possable. Good luck!
Reply:clean the trap and your done.
