How can i fix my clogged kitchen sink?

My kitchen sink is clogged! it has a garbage disposal..i think its clogged from all the food we've put down there over time as i see some tiny bit of food come back up and some black tiny dust...out of no where the water will rise back up and start overflowing out of the sink. I've trained using Drain-O (the liquid plumber stuff) with no success..I called a plumber and he estimated it would cost around $200.00 to fix which i just can't afford. any help would be greatly appreciated.

How can i fix my clogged kitchen sink?
remove the P trap, rod the line.

I hope you learned from the draino not working, because NO liquid "drain cleaner" actually works, it's all HYPE and MARKETING!
Reply:The waste is trapped in the P-trap, the black dust is mold living on the debris. Boil a gallon of water on the stove pour it down the drain, boil another gallon and pour it down the disposal side, then pour a cup of bleach down each side.
Reply:Try this link for instructions and photos of how to clean drains in the kitchen. The equipment costs very little so it won't hurt to try. http://www.rd.com/content/openContent.do...
Reply:you should call your plumber and ask if he accepts payments. I do but I am in Ca if your in The bay area my company could help. You are just going to keep having the same problem. Now ask your home owners association if they own the drainage pipes. sounds like your on a lower level and everytime the upper unit uses the kitchen it will back up in your sink because water travels the path of least resistance. your lower so it comes out of your sink. if you have no one living above you but have upper water fixtures. you could not use them until you have cleared the line. you will need to have it snaked. liquid plumber only works on hair and not very good on that
Reply:Since you already added the draino i wouldnt advise plunging because you can receive splash back of the chemical and it could get into your eyes ect.If you didnt want to hire someone the only other thing you can do is get a bucket and bail out the water in the sink and take off the P trap and drain out the rest of the water.I would also get a small canister snake and snake further back to force anything out. Then put the trap back on(hopefully no seals get broke. and then flush it with hot water. That should do the trick.
Reply:I just got done unclogging my kitchen sink which has two drains too it. At first I used Liquid Plumber which softened up the slug in the trap. Then I poured hot water down and cleaned the trap out. However, the water still backed up but would gradually drain out of the sink. After an hour I took a bucket and I put it under the trap (the u-joint part of the pipe that can be removed) and emptied out any liquids. Be careful because there may still be some of the initial chemical in there. I used gloves. The water will splash out when you remove the u-joint part of the pipe so do it slowly so it does not spray all over.

The next part is where I had to buy a small auger(mine cost around $25 and was in a case that allowed me to rotate it) and thread it through the part of the pipe going into the wall and attached to the other part of the drain. I could feel some clogs which were easily removed with a few twist of the auger. After that I had a small separate PVC pipe I bought at the hardware store that had a bend in it. This pipe fit in where the U-shape pipe went and allowed me to pour some more Liquid Draino into that part of the pipe. After pouring the chemical in I poured a glass of water in to flush it into the pipe. Be careful if you decide to do this because the Draino will foam back up out of the small pipe.

This process did clean the pipe out. However, all the slug that was in the pipe ended up in my basement sink and clogging it up. Which I'm working on at the moment. Oh well, at least it is slowly making it's way out of the house.....lol Good luck.
Reply:ok do this

if it is a double sink

cover with a wet rag the other sink drain hole, ask someone to press real hard and then use the plunger on the other side.

1st cover all the sink hole where the garbage disposal is with the plunger

2nd push the plung all the way down

3rd pull hard once

*ps dont plunged to many times and fast at once, you may get stuff on ur face

turn the garbage disposal, only if it does not splashes any water

if it is still clogged, do those steps again

it keeps doing that cause if u keep using the other side of the sink, the water is not going all the way down, remember, pipes are blocked
