Kitchen sink clogged with grease. How to unclog?

Last night I browned a pound of hamburger and put a bowl into the sink to drain the grease into. The bowl spilled and now my sink is clogged. It is bad weather and I don't want to go out to the store. Is there anything other than Liquid Plumber or Drano that I could use? Maybe something I already have on hand?

It's likely that the trap under the sink is clogged. Place a bucket under it and disconnect it from the piping. This will get rid of a lot of the grease anyways. Reconnect the trap. Then you can run hot water down the drain. I would recommend an enzyme drain cleaner such as DrainCare by Zep. This can be used safely in all drainage systems. Hair, grease and soap scum build up in drainlines. An enzyme cleaner clings to and "eats" organic matter. I use this monthly and have no drain problems.
Reply:Dump a boiling pot of water into the sink. Also get an enzyme septic treatment at the grocery store to help dissolve, especially if you have a septic tank.
Reply:Got any Washing Soda? Try dissolving with that.Or, you could connect a short hose to your cold supply, wrap cloth around to create a seal, and pressure down the drain. You will need to block the overflow.

Break up 2 alka seltzers and poke in the drain. Now pour 1 cup vinegar down the drain. When the fizzing stops (about 3-5 minutes), run hot water ~ wah la OPEN DRAIN
Reply:Try really really hot water. If that does not work, you may have to use liquid plumber type stuff. If that is the case, I recommend something w / sulfuric acid in it.
Reply:You could try baking soda and vinegar, though it may not cut a lot of grease. Put about a cup of baking soda down your drain and then about 2 cups of vinegar. You will see the reaction and then flush with cold water.
Reply:Use very hot water which will melt the grease and keep pouring till uncloged.Been there done that.
Reply:if you know its grease put in some boiling water.

Draino and others only work on TV, not real life.
