Can a clogged muffler cause high pressure in the crankcase?

I have the symptoms of high pressure in the crankcase which is extra smoke coming from the vent to the carb. Can that be because of my muffler is having a clogged filter which is that box just at the end under the car trunk?

Can a clogged muffler cause high pressure in the crankcase?
I've never heard of a plugged up muffler. Chances are better that the catalytic converter is plugged up. Catalytic converters look like a muffler. They are found in the tail pipe in front of the muffler. More likely if there is a blockage that's the problem rather than the muffler. I don't know what you mean when you say " muffler is having a clogged filter" because mufflers don't have filters. After the exhaust leaves the engine it goes down the pipe , through the catalytic converter then back into the pipe and down to the muffler where it exit's.There may be a short piece of pipe after the muffler depending on the car.
Reply:nope, before that could ever happen the intake of air/fuel could not happen because of low vacuum. The spent fuel mixture could not exhaust because of the blockage, when the intake valve opens and trys to draw in air/fuel it gets pressure from the remaining exhaust that could not expel. this sends a pressure wave (puff of exhaust) back up through the intake and blows the air/fuel mixture away from the cylinder.

what you end up with is low power and rough (or no) idle.

floor it all you want and it wont get out of its own way.

your smoke is "blow by" which is burned mixture that leaked past the rings into the crankcase below causing exhaust in the crankcase and increased crankcase pressure

sorry pal , you need a ring job, the ONLY hope you have is that the rings are merely stuck not worn. In which case spraying gumout or chemtool down its throat while you keep it running might free of the rings. not likely that they are just stuck though
Reply:i own a repair shop, and the guts of the muffler will come loose and cause it to clog up real bad,,it wont release back pressure ,,but usually they wont run to good if this happens to them, but it can cause a little too much back pressure in the engine, and might cause more smoke than usual from the vent tube,,the pcv valve though should handle this though,,if one has a little wear on the engine this will also cause it to smoke more from the crank case,,its known as blow by,,its just caused from miles ,,good luck i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.
Reply:Only if the rings on one or more cylinders are blown. SOON get to a shop SOON What are you doing GOOOW!!!
Reply:YES that will have a lot of pressure, disconnect the muffler or converter!! check breating pressure by hand while running but be careful use your own judgement because it can get hot!!

this day in history
