My toilet has been working fine. But just before i left today, I flushed a relatively small bowel movement %26amp; it got completely clogged! Water came to rim, not even room for plunger (%26amp; I hate to put plunger into the smelly mess!). I had to leave for 7 hrs %26amp; hoped water level would recede while I was gone, which it did, but right or wrong, my first step was to pour a pail of hot water down, %26amp; now the smelly mess is right back up to the rim. What I have thought of:
1. Leaving here for the night! until I can get repairman in the morning!
2. Bailing out water into pail (I have protective glove %26amp; empty tin can for bailing)....but where do I pour the filthy water..into garden? into trash bag? %26amp; what do I do then, plunge?
I hate to use chemicals, %26amp; none on hand. It seems like this should be relatively simple. But terrified of putrid water coming up over rim. Friend suggested: turn off water to toilet if flush %26amp; come too high, but knob to do that is crammed in corner, inaccessible
Suddenly clogged toilet, yucky smelly water, what to do?
I'd wait for the water to recede a bit, then go to town with a plunger.
I don't think it would be anything major, seeing as it did recede a bit the first time you left it for awhile (indicating water can still drain to a degree). So I think a good plunging should do the trick.
If you have to bail some water out...well, I'm sure there's a sewer drain somewhere near by, I'd start there.
Reply:Do you have a septic tank? If so you may need to have it cleaned soon. It can back up into your toilet and worse. If you are on a sewer line, you still have problems. If you rent call your landlord. Is you are a homeowner, call your plumber ASAP.
Reply:I would choose the first option: Wait for the plumber before you accidently get into an even bigger mess on your own. Good Luck!
