Would a clogged filter on a furnace cause the high limit gasket to break?

They charged us a good deal of money to fix our furnace today and said it would not be covered by warranty as the clogged filter caused the problem. Can anyone in the know confirm? Thanks

Would a clogged filter on a furnace cause the high limit gasket to break?
yes a plugged filter will take out a high limit switch, it will drastically shorten the life of your furnace, can and will break heat exchangers---all of this is not covered by warranties because YOU are expected to A change the filter yourself, of B pay a contractor to do it for you
Reply:If you mean they replaced the high limit control, yes that could be caused by nor cleaning or replacing the filter. A furnace requires some routine maintenance to prevent this. For more info, check out the furnace page at my source.
Reply:It is possible that the reduced airflow arising from the dirty filter caused the plenum to overheat, cracking the gasket. But replacing a gasket should be cheap.
