Help with clogged toilet!!!?

We seem to have a clog in our upstairs toilet. It's just not flushing very forcefully, sometimes it takes 2 flushes for the waste to fully go down. I bought a proper flange plunger for toilets and it doesn't seem to work. With each plunging motion, the water bowl level decreases. By the 4th or 5th plunge, the bowl is almost empty and the plunger is useless. I bought a closet auger but am having a very difficult time snaking it through. It's only gone through all the way twice, the other three times it seems to snake out back into the toilet bowl. However the first time it did go through it brought back a bit of tissue and a small mass of dog hair, but nothing substantial. I tried plunging after that but have the same tank-emptying effect as described above.

Should I try any chemicals or aftermarket toilet unclogging products?

If you have kids in the house there is a good chance there is a toy or toothbrush in the curve (trap) of the toilet. Water flushes ok, but any paper/stuff will always gets stuck. A snake will sometimes just go by it and not pull/push it out, so you will probably have to remove the toilet and shine a light as far down as you can see and then shake it a bit, because when you turn the toilet upside down, it may make the stuck object move into an area you can't see. If it was just paper or waste, a plunger usually does the job..No..I think there's something in there.
Reply:REMOVE THE COMMODE AND SEE IF THE WATER GOES DOWN? IF IT DOES PROPERLY THEN IT IS THE COMMODE AND I WOULDL JUST REPLACE IT FOR ABOUT $100
Reply:You could have something in the waste pipe but it could also be a clogged vent line. Drain lines have to have an ample suuply of air to drain properly. If the vent is plugged, slow drains result. Is there a downstairs toilet directly below? Does it work? If you can get to your roof, there should be a pipe coming thru directly above your bathroom. Run the snake down there to clean the vent. It could have leaves, birds nests, or any number of things in it. If you aren't comfortable, pay a plumber. We can't all be experts in everything and a plumber DEFINITELY earns his keep.
Reply:Get this snake thinggy, it run it down...your toilet. go to lowes or home depot.
Reply:keep plunging it will go through.do not add any chemicals to the commode it may break the commode.
