What happens if exhaust is clogged?

My bike just blew out very dusty black powder with a pop sound and kept doing that for like a minute like it is clogged.

What does that to the bike?

sometimes it runs pretty good but other times, it idles poor(dies when hot) so when i increase the idle adjustment, it idles OK but when i revv it up, the RPM stays high for a while and come back. I think that's because idle adjustment is too high?? but if i don't do that, idle will go too low and bike will die.

Clogged muffler will cause this?

I see the problem has returned. You're still running too rich. The black powder is soot (aka carbon).
Reply:clean out your exhaust man! it cant run if it cant exhaust!
Reply:I would guess the problem is more with the carburater than with clogged exhaust. I would check the fuel tank to be sure it is clean, change the filters and clean and rebuild the carbs.
Reply:single carb or duel. if duel you might just have to sync them
Reply:Could -not normally but it is probably the choke. The weight opens and closes! It is bad for muffler to be clogged it slows down the combustion of the motor which is air that has to be released.
Reply:With the bike cold, start it up in neutral. Put your hand over the end of the pipe(s). Do you feel pressure? Don't wait too long because they will get hot (obviously).

If the pressure is weak, then maybe you have a clog.

Give it an Italian tune-up. That will clear it out good. Too many people neglect the benefit of this tried-and-true tune-up procedure.
