My ears seemed clogged...Help me!?

I had a cold last week and then as I was starting to feel better,my ears clogged up. Especially my right one. Then I waited a day or so and it didnt clear. I tried a few drops of Hyd.Peroxide to dry it out. It seems it helped for a little while but now i can barely hear out of it. Is it possible i damaged my eardrum... How do i know if it is an infection. (As an American w/o health insurance, i can not afford to see a dr. unless it really comes to that point.) Thank you for your help!!! My mom had the same cold a few weeks ago and she got anti-biotics for her clogged ears, Maybe I should take some of her stuff for a week or so???????

If you damaged your Eardrum you will know. Believe me last year i busted both my Eardrums and what happened was it hurt extremely bad but i was Deaf for abut 2 months and then once it scarred and healed up i could hear again. Do you have any other symptoms? Like is your nose stuffed up? Feel your Neck do you feel anything swollen? IF your Lymph Nodes are swollen then it is a middle Ear Infection. You may just need to take Ear drops for about a Week...If that doesn't clear up you may want to go to a Walk-In clinic (They dont charge much if you dont have insurance they base it off how much you make) Usually $20 a visit.
Reply:A) are you or have you been running a fever?

B) what color is any drainage from your sinuses?

C) never, never take a prescription that is for someone else.

D) your mother should not have any "left over" pills, antibiotics should be taken until gone--- this is how we get those "superbugs" the media is so excited about these days. People don't finish their course of antibiotics and so the bacteria build up resistence.

E) for a small earache, some claim a few drops of warm olive oil is comforting, also try OTC pain relievers such as ibuprofen. If the pain would get bad, then suddenly better, and you might have drainage from your ear, do not put anything in your ear as your eardrum is ruptured. go to the doctor.

F) OTC decongestants will help with some of the pain/pressure, also, such as sudafed.
Reply:Could be your normal syansises swelling up. Like the swelling up at the top of your nose / eye area. It should return to normal within a week. If not contact your GP.

An ear infection will become very painful and leak a yellow discharge. You'll get a horrible ear ache.
Reply:do you clean your ears out? It could be wax build up. I would get one of those home wax removing kits BEFORE taking your moms meds, just to be sure. THEN I would pop a couple if it doesnt work out.
Reply:If it's cold related you might want to try an antihistamine.
