Aquarium pumps getting clogged.?

Ok I have two filters on my tank a biowheel and canister. On top of that i have a current pump and a skimmer. The pumps for the skimmer and current are getting clogged. The skimmer has a foam sleeve around it and the current pump has nothing. The current pump still works though it could stand to be cleaned. But the skimmer yet again isnt working and the foam sleeve is crumpled up as if its clogged(not a lot of water flow through the pipe anymore either). Now my question is can do without this foam sleeve that continually gets clogged or is there a better thing i can use to fix this problem. Please let me know your thoughts.

Aquarium pumps getting clogged.?
i would try it without the foam, just watch the skimmer ofr a while. try cleaning the tubes leading to the skimmer and cleaning both filters and tubes, no need to use a cleaner, just special brushes to get most of the crud out, the tubes can take a good scrubbing. depending on the skimmer inlet a bulkhead screen could be used, easier cleaning. note that the skimmer may need adjustmet after cleaning. try reef-central.com for more ideas, some of the stuff on there is coconut radio type stuff, with am/fm/satellite/weather bands/cb/scanner/braodband internet/ and a satellite phone all in one, with 7 channel surround!!
Reply:I find those foam sleeves to be a pain- they get clogged too easily. Have you considered using bioballs or another alternative?
Reply:get another filter. AquaClear has 3, Mechanical, Bioligoical and the other one. It's pretty cheap price wise
