Clogged shower drain?

has your shower drain ever clogged from hair?

Clogged shower drain?
Yes. A good way to get it unclogged is to use a metal hanger, unbend it, except for the hook part which you might need to make smaller to fit in your drain. You can then pull up your hair clog.

That's what I did 2 weeks ago after it completely stopped draining and it works wonderfully!

I've used Drano and Liquid Plumer in the past and they've not had as good of results.
Reply:Of course, especially if you have long hair....

Use Drano or Liquid Plumr.... problem solved.
Reply:That's the reason shower drains clog - it's usually a hair and soap curd clog.

Normally, there is a strainer over the drain. You'll want to remove that. Then use a dose of Crystal Drano.

Crystal Drano heats up when it hits water. Down by the trap, the water will be almost to the boiling point, and the water will be *churning*. One of the ingredients in Crystal Drano happens to be sharp shards of aluminum. Aluminum is too soft to hurt metal drains, but boy, it sure does a number on that hair and those soap curds.

If that doesn't work, do NOT repeat. The water is already very alkaline, and so it won't heat up the second time like it did the first. At this point, you need to get a snake from the hardware store.

The bacteria in your drains forms a matrice that covers the smooth walls of your pipe, and that's how how clogs get a foothold. If you dump a lot of *scalding* hot water down every drain in your house, every week, you're not likely to ever get a clog, because you will kill all the bacteria off.

That's the reason for that old advertising slogan, "Once every week, Drano in every drain." Crystal Drano heats the water up to scalding and kills the bacteria. (When they first introduced that slogan, Crystal Drano was all they had. Liquid Drano came later.) You can do the same thing for less money and less damage to the environment if you simply carry a big pan of scalding hot water from the kitchen range to each drain. Or you can simply use Crystal Drano, for the convenience.
Reply:All showers seem to clog at one time. Try getting one of these. It works great on hair clogs. http://www.zipitclean.com/
Reply:yes. i remove the screws holding the strainer and clear it with a hanger a couple times a year. the hair usually stays right below the strainer.
Reply:Yep. Have had to on several occasions unscrew the drain, and stick a wire down there to get the gloop out-- we also have hard water, so it makes it worse by holding the mineral deposits.
Reply:Try two or three tbsp of baking soda. 1/2 cup of white vinegar. This will help drains flow faster and stay open.I do not no if it will unclog drain
Reply:Bleach...cheapest solution to the problem...if totally clogged pour in what fits then keep topping off. If just slow pour in 1/2 to 1 gallon of bleach.Let sit for as long as you can stand the smell or at least an hour then flush with plenty of water.
Reply:Yes! I use Draino like others suggested. I also try to remember to clean it out once a week to keep it from clogging. There's also hair traps you can buy to prevent the hair from going down.
Reply:Yes I use gel drano ,let it sit for a half hour then rinse also use a plunger and that usually does the trick.....
