Clogged pores and dry skin?
Hi hun,

I sympathise with you. Firstly, it isn't due to foods and diet only that can make changes to your skin but it's hormone levels especially at your age. I never quite got acne or bad skin however at my age of 31, I have been through it all. Firstly don't go spending too much on products and just be aware at your wonderful youthful tender age that hormones are very much in play now. You say you are on birthcontrol and this can also affect your skin too if you are very concerned please firstly 1) have your GP check them out it's probably an underlaying problem perhaps an infection on the skin that just wont go, should you show your concerns and this is truly upsetting for someone in there teens, it really is then please ask whether your birth control pills are affecting you. He may give you antibiotic cream to remove your spots or secondly he may change your birth control tablets. 2) Before spending your cash on designer products or anything else your thinking of - please don't not just yet anyway. I have tried everything under the sun - luckily I have been very fortunate to have a choice with buying lots of products concerned with little white pimply lumps around my chin. What I normally do is this 1) your hormone levels may be imbalanced sometimes more so at the time of your monthly. This is totally normal. I kind of get the impression you have those little ones that you can 'pop' and they come back twice as much the following day and eventually they turn a little red and sore. I was told that I was allergic to 'something' and was given an allergy tablet which cleared it up. I was taking antibiotics and it caused this pimple like bubbly skin. So, perhaps you are allergic or reacting to your tablets. Its best to see a GP just so you can clear that up.

You don't mentioned whether you have oily skin or not but I have been told that 1) too much moisturiser can make things a little worse. Firstly, it blocks pores so try use only little and try not to pick too much because you dont want to get your skin open to infection. 2) I use blotting paper each day to blott away excess oil which works well you can find this anywhere online, Clinique is good but if you want something a little more less expensive Body Shop also good. Whichever way you can find them online :) And what REALLY works is 1) drink plenty of water, avoid sugary drinks or at least cut down, avocardo is AWESOME for your skin and Vit E and Vit C creams ( I use bodyshop, it's very good stuff). Try Ebay of you like you'll find lots of items perhaps half price or buy testers before you fork out a small fortune on anything. If you are still unhappy and you need some cover up - try a blemish stick, witch hazel is very good.

As a good routine in general for good skin 1) sleep well 2) wash with a cleanser (on the face) 3) moisterise but not too much and if you must, use concealer to cover up those little nasty pimples.

Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you :)x
Reply:clogged pores take a long time to unclog, so you will have to be diligent in your skin care routine.

cetaphil is good. once or twice a week treat your skin with an alpha or beta hydroxy face treatment (since you have dry skin you only want to do this once or twice a week any more and it will dry out your skin too much). I prefer products that stay on the skin like lotions.

beta hydroxy is also known as salicylic acid--you want a 2% solution--read your ingredient lists. you can find them in the skin care aisle for both acne treatment AND anti-aging products. I like neutogena's pore refiner.

you will start to notice that the clogged pores will start to unclog and you can apply VERY light and gentle pressure to the pore to extract the gunk. (clean your face with the gentle cleanser, clean your hands before extracting, extract, then apply a toner or the pore refiner to your face).

Since you have a tendency to have clogged pores, you will have to keep using the pore refiner once your pores are unclogged to help revent them from getting clogged again.

if you prefer a cleaning pad--any brand will do as long as it has a 2% solution of salicylic acid (beta-hydroxy)
Reply:Dry skin needs plenty of cleansing, massage and generous quantities of oil and moisture. Use aloe vera gel after bathing. There are many helpful tips to cure dry skin at http://useinfo-dryskin.blogspot.com/
Reply:I know how you feel...an proactiv doesn't work on me either. Your routine has a good chance of working. Anything Dove has worked for me...look into their cleaning pads. Also you may want to talk to your doctor about your birth control...that also plays a big deal with acne.

Good luck...
