Clogged drain from kitty litter? Please help!?

Okay guys I really, really need some help. A while ago, my little sister placed the kitty box in the jacuzzi bathtub, and now it has a clog. Long story short I have tried Draino and other liquids to undo it but nothing's worked. Now we are moving out, and I have been reading other questions like this asked by other people and I am praying to God that there is a solution that is not so drastic.Is there any sort of chemical or other thing that would dissolve it? Or what is this snake thing I read about? Please, please help. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Chemicals will not do it. Two possible solutions. If you have a garden hose and can get it down there.. or even better a pressure washer.. try that first... it may force it through. If not, then a snake is needed. Don't dispair. Every Home Depot has one and they are not so much $$. It is basically a long flat piece of metal on a reel, much like a super stiff tape measure, that you stick into the pipe and jam around until you break up the clog. Also, sometimes you need to get a snake you can attach to a drill so you can kinda drill out the clog. You will be fine as long as the clog is not too far down the pipe.

Reply:Borrow or rent a wet vac, use this to suck the litter out of the drain, use a wet rag or small towel wraped around the vac hose towards the end,


[acts as a seal] vac it out, run some more water into the drain vac it again, do this till water will run down the drain,
Reply:Your in deep trouble here I'm afraid: I had a girl that flushed her fish tank gravel down the bathroom sink. It took me two days to take the lines apart and get it all out.


This was from a 180 gallon tank and she run the water while dumping the gravel down the line, it was all the way out to the street. An auger just froze in the line when Rooter-Router tried, they gave up. Almost didn't get there tool and wire back. They told her to dig up the line.





After flushing the lines while they were apart and working a hose from both the street and the house, we finally got all the gravel out of the line. The lady cried when I gave her the bill.





She tried to blame her daughter but, while doing the work, I found out it was her that did it and, blamed her young daughter for it. I didn't feel bad giving her the bill. I charged $48.00 an hour back then.
Reply:You might have to have the pipe opened up and drained. Unless you can sneak a hose from a vacuum down it but you didn't say how far down it went.
Reply:Kitty litter down a drain is bad news, as it does not dissolve. You may have to call a plumber to either extract it out or force it through the system.
Reply:a pipe snake will resolve the problem.. if your a "do it yourself" person then its worth buying one (works on the dryer vent also) and would cost less then a plumber..

Reply:Kitty Litter down the drain is no job for a plumbers tape or wet-vac. Quit playing around and call the professionals.

Reply:It has probably jammed up the trap under the sink,remove and clean it. Then try a water hose in the pipe the trap came off of they sell expanding bladders that fit in the pipe(Drain King) screw it on the hose,stick it in the pipe,turn the water on it will eventually flush it all out. Or call some one like Roto Rooter there are no chemicals I know of that will break down clay based litter.
Reply:kitty litter expands when it gets wet, so the more liquids you pour down, the worse it's going to get. You'll have to call a plumber/drainer in. Don't try to use the snake yourself. You could end up punching a hole through the pipes. Then you'll be in big trouble.
Reply:First off, do not put any liquids down the drain. All you'll do is make a bad situation worse. Kitty litter clumps and/or swells, neither is good for the pipes.





Second, you can do the drain opening yourself, with a small snake. The only way to clear this obstruction is by mechanical means.





I bought a small snake, that attaches to my cordless drill, for about $15.00 from Home Depot. This thing has cleared more drains than I can count.
