Clogged Sewer?

The main sewer pipe is clogged and runs very slow. Every time something comes down the drain, the water comes up out of the floor drain in my basement. I have tried a bottle of Liquid Plumbr Prof. strength and it didn't work. Today I put 3 bottles of that stuff down there and it still didn't work. Could it be a tree root blocking the pipe? There is a tree in front of the house but it isn't on top of where the sewer line runs.

My house is the second lowest on the block (my street is on a hill) Could that be the cause of the problem?

Clogged Sewer?
If you have a septic system, it's probably time to call the "honey dippers".

If you have city sewers, if the blockage is from tree roots, it would have deveoped gradually. If this developed all the sudden, someting went down the pipe and plugged it, such as when emptying mop water into a toilet and accidently flushing a rag down the pipe. It could also be if you have combined sewer and stormwater drains on your street, and have had a lot of rain lately, the sewer lines might just be temporarily overwhelmed with effluent, particularly since you are near the bottom of a hill.
Reply:Could be anything, if you have roots reguardless it would be a good idea to have it snaked out.Backing up in the drainage is a good sign.If they do detect roots in the system, using a product which contains copper sulfate would be a great preventative once the line has been cleared.Sad to say liquid plumber wouldn't work for this. There is a product by Rooto it comes in a plastic bottle (its the only bottle wraped in a plastic bag)This is very strong drain cleaner for main lines only, this will take care of hair, grease you name it.I'd have it snaked out first to see what they tell you was clogged in there to know which product to go by.
Reply:Since you are the second lowest and if it has been raining a lot where you live, I suspect the main drains are just having a hard time getting rid of the water. Talk to the person lowest on the block and see if they are having the same problem. If they are, then it the heavy rain. If not, then it's a problem from you house to the main drain.
Reply:tree roots are your best bet.no liquid in the world will go through them/call a drain cleaning comp they'll have to snake it out.
Reply:It could be alot of things. Roots, Grease, hair, or if you have kids they maybe stuck something down there. Dont put that drain cleaner stuff down there, it eats away at the pipe and most times makes things worst. it is total garbage. If you call some one they will try to snake it out (a cable machine with a sharp blade on the end) or they may Jet it ( a very big machine with a hose, the hose goes down the drain and sprays high pressure water and cleans the pipe.)
