Sore breast. Clogged milk duct?

My daughter is 13 months old and nurses many times a day. This afternoon, I noticed a very sore spot in my right breast. I've never had a clogged milk duct. If it is a clogged milk duct, can I pump to alleviate some pain. She's already asleep and man, it hurts!!

Sore breast. Clogged milk duct?
Not fun! Here are a few things you can try. Warm compress/ warm shower and try to manually express. Massage the affected area , you can do this while you are breast feeding as well. Breastfeed as frequently as you can. You may have developed the clog due to a change in feedings. You can take tylenol. See your dr. ASAP if you develop a fever, mastitis (infected milk duct) you will need intervention-but still continue to breastfeed! I've worked with pregnant and breastfeeding moms for nearly 6 years professionally and have plenty of personal experience-good luck!
Reply:I've had this before ... I used a very warm wash cloth, and then tried to massage the clog out, before nursing (or pumping). If your breast gets really hot, or you start running a fever, it could indicate mastitis.
Reply:ya get some advil or smthin..... good luck
Reply:Warm compresses, massage, then pumping will help. If you develop a fever, or a general feeling of being ill, see your doctor. You may have developed mastitis at that point. Things to watch for are a hard lump with redness and swelling, and fever. Good luck!
Reply:Have you tried taking warm showers? I pumped and took warmshowers and massaged them.
Reply:Sounds like mastitis and it's common during breatfeeding. You might neet antibiotics, so see your doctor. In the meantime, it is safe to keep breastfeeding and it can even help you.
Reply:when this happened to my wife she would pump to alleviate the pressure, and why are you still breast feeding at 13 months?
Reply:Pump, use warm cloths, and try to find which one is clogged and massage it (internally, it'd be like an area that is still engorged or something. It might feel a little swollen, too. If it doesn't go away in a few days while doing that, or it becomes unclogged and the milk looks strange compared to the rest, see a doctor because it might be infected.
Reply:I had a similar experience with my daughter years ago. Yes you cna pump, infact you need to or it will get infected.
Reply:Try gently rubbing your breast towards the nipple. I have had clogged milk ducts and you need to massage the area to break up the clog. You may have thickened milk come out; that's okay, that's just the clog. A warm pack on the spot or a warm shower will also help. Pumping may help alleviate the pain, but I had better results with the massaging.
Reply:Yep, pump away, warm cloths help too.
