Help 4 clogged artieries.. :(?
The surgery is different for everyone. Some patients need to be put on the bypass machine, and some do not. After the surgery, your grandmother will be very weak and will need lots of help. It will take some time, but she will return to her normal activities and will probably feel better than she has in a long time.

All that you can really do is pray for her and be there to offer your support and assistance as it's needed. Best of luck to you.
Reply:I would imagine she is going to be having by pass surgery , she will be perkier than ever after wards...
Reply:Open heart surgery - heart bypass - coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) all are names for the surgery your grandmother is scheduled to have. CABG's have become nearly routine these days. While not completely without risk, not too many people pass away due to complications of the surgery. Of those who do die, it is usually due to multiple other medical problems such as - diabetes, congestive heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease, and cancer; all major problems that contribute to poor outcomes.

In short if your grandmother was generally healthy to start, then she will do well on the other end of the surgery. Often what is not clear to patients who enter urgent CABG's is that the recovery time can be extended. Definitely the first month is going to be difficult. Most CT surgeon's say it will take an entire year to get back to normal...most of that recovery happens in the first six months, the next six months is gaining stamina, etc.

Because of your GM's advanced age, she may not bounce back quite as fast as someone younger, so expect some months of recovery - it will be normal. Be sure she participates in cardiac rehab if available...it almost always is useful.

Here's the great news - at the one year point people often can not believe how good they feel. I often hear things like, I haven't felt this good in 20 years! So there's a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck and God bless.
Reply:Okay . . .

Before I say anything, looking up info online will probably only make you more nervous needlessly. Unless you are preforming the surgery, it's outside of your control -- just relax, and have faith in the doctors.

*If*

you

*REALLY* HAVE TO KNOW SOMETHING, wikipedia probably has some info for you.
